🔮 Fan Theories

The community has been speculating about The Watcher's fate. Here are the most popular theories:

The Watcher Is Watching Over the Spire

Some fans theorize the Watcher has transcended mortal form over the millennium, becoming an observer or guardian spirit of the Spire itself.

Evidence: Her name 'The Watcher' suggests observation over action. The Spire's nature changed dramatically in 1,000 years — someone may have guided that change.

She'll Be Added as a DLC Character

Given STS2's 1-2 year EA roadmap with 'more gameplay content' planned, the Watcher could arrive as a major content update.

Evidence: The EA roadmap explicitly mentions content additions. With 5 characters at launch and Watcher being the most-requested STS1 character, she's the obvious candidate for a major update.

Corrupted by the Spire

The Dec 2024 gameplay trailer showed a corrupted Defect face — there may be a corrupted Watcher too.

Evidence: The original 4 heroes' fates over 1,000 years are a central mystery. The corrupted imagery in the trailer suggests the heroes didn't all survive intact.

Lore

The Watcher is a blind monk from the original Slay the Spire who mastered the ancient technique of stance-switching. What happened to her in the 1,000 years between the two games is one of STS2's great mysteries.
